New Jersey Resources is seeking a Sr. Paralegal to provide paralegal support to Assistant General Counsel(s) and to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel as needed.
Major Responsibilities:
* Manage the intake of complaints, subpoenas and other incoming matters as assigned; ensure appropriate supporting documentation is gathered and follow-up to obtain missing information
* Maintain and update the Litigation Docket in Legal Tracker
* Collect evidence and update the evidence log as needed for assigned litigation and/or threatened litigation matters, including ensuring all documents, tape recordings, and other documents are properly preserved in electronic and paper form for litigation and threatened litigation matters
* Negotiate resolution of escalated customer complaints and other assigned matters
* Review and assist in preparation of pleadings, responses to subpoenas, interrogatories, document and other discovery requests in conjunction with pending or threatened litigation
* Work with employees in collections, customer service, operations, engineering and the affiliated companies to bring disputed or escalated matters to resolution
* Conduct legal research when required
* Support Assistant General Counsel in maintaining Litigation Report, and Litigation Resolution Spreadsheet
* Support General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel with Code of Conduct and other employee matters including gathering evidence and responsive documents, and drafting interview summaries
* Maintain Code of Conduct log and files
* Support Assistant General Counsel in responding to and defending customer complaints including those to the Department of Consumer Affairs, BBB and the Board of Public Utilities
* Support Assistant General Counsel with Right of Way and Easement Issues and other miscellaneous property matters, including, for example, coordinating with other departments as needed
* Maintain the Workers Compensation Log and files, provide support for discovery and draft summaries of matters for proposed settlements
* Review Third Party Subpoenas, gather responsive documents and draft proposed responses
* Review and assist with customer inquiries including requests for company information and records
* Oversee records management within the Legal Department and maintain litigation, code of conduct, employee issues and miscellaneous files
* Supervise Paralegal Assistant
* Other tasks assigned by the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel(s)
Position Specifications:
* High school diploma required, Associate's degree is preferred
* A minimum of five years of paralegal experience is required with an emphasis on litigation
* Proficient in Word and Excel programs
* Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
* Strong analytical skills, initiative and work ethic
* Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks
* Ability to work both independently and as a team player
* Strong customer service skills
* Ability to independently investigate and resolve matters in dispute
* Experience supervising others is a plus
