Job Description

Location: Bermuda or Boston or Toronto

The International Life Compliance team including the Senior Compliance Consultant provides compliance support to the Manulife Bermuda Branch. The Senior Compliance Consultant works closely with internal customers including Bermuda Branch management and staff, the law department, and other compliance teams including US Compliance and Global Compliance. This individual must have excellent organizational skills and strong business knowledge. Experience with the Bermuda Monetary Authority is preferred. This individual will be involved in and responsible for various compliance functions and initiatives supporting the Manulife Bermuda Branch.

Individual Accountabilities:

  • Acting as an Individual Contributor, sets direction, establishes goals and manages the tasks of the compliance function
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with the business and compliance teams
  • Capable of handling very advanced compliance work
  • Assists senior level team members with tasks and assignments as needed
  • Supports Business Unit in the development and implementation of policies, procedures that enable the business to remain in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Leads and supports special projects
  • Creates and provides training as needed to business and/or compliance staff
  • Functions as a subject matter expert at a high level
  • Completes required reporting for the function
  • May represent Compliance in Segment-wide or global projects
  • Ensures that policies and procedures for the function are documented
  • Works with regulators as needed
  • Coordinates and performs analysis on complex concepts that may require in-depth research and interpretation; provides sustainable solutions
  • Provides leadership to indirect reporting relationships
  • Participates in industry forums/working group to explore and develop possible solutions to various issues
  • Collaborates with all areas of the organization to ensure compliance needs and business goals are met.
  • Shares best practices with other team members, thus ensuring consistency across business unit and Segment in the way business/process/products are developed and maintained to be in compliance with Regulatory and Company requirements.

  • Assists the Compliance Directors and/or Chief Compliance Officer(s).
  • Shares responsibility for ensuring the business understands what it takes to be in compliance.

Job Requirements:

  • College/University Degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of related financial services or compliance experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technology skills including knowledge of applicable compliance or business systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem- solving skills
  • Strong ethical compass
  • Disciplined
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the financial services industry with an advanced understanding of the Companys businesses.
  • Advanced understanding of the regulatory environment in which the Company operates and a strong understanding of key compliance requirements applicable to the business.
  • Negotiating, influencing, and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to represent business internally and externally
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work with all levels of management in the organization.
