Facilitate commercial goals of the Clean Air sector and protect its investment in R&D by (1) monitoring and reporting risks that may arise from third party IP, and (2) managing and protecting the intellectual property which arises from such R&D.
Key Responsibilities
* Understanding commercial needs of the business and providing IP solutions to support those needs.
* Understanding relevant technologies, products, and markets, and managing global patent portfolios for specified technologies, including prosecution of patent applications at applicable patent offices and instructing foreign external counsel or internal patent attorney colleagues based in other countries to file and prosecute applications in other patent offices, such as CNIPA and JPO.
* Independently drafting new patent applications for relevant technologies.
* With guidance from Senior Patent Attorney or IP Manager, preparing invalidity, non-infringement, and freedom to operate opinions.
* With guidance from Senior Patent Attorney or IP Manager, participating in post-grant patent validity challenges (both defensively and offensively).
* Monitoring and reporting on third party IP-related activity relevant to the business.
* Providing IP training to internal customers, including scientists, commercial managers, and corporate attorneys.
* Carrying out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

* A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in chemical-related engineering discipline or science and a law degree from an accredited law school
* Current USPTO registration as a patent attorney and licensed to practice law in at least one state, preferably Pennsylvania
* At least 4 years of experience practicing as a registered US patent attorney (some private practice preferred) desirable
* Conversational in Mandarin, Japanese, Hindi, and/or German desirable
* Excellent communication skills for both face-to-face and remote interactions, able to communicate effectively across different cultures and at all levels (including scientists, external lawyers and foreign associates in many different countries).
* Excellent relationship management and customer service skills, able to identify and service customer needs and build relationships with key stakeholders
* Excellent analytical, organizational and assertiveness skills
* IT literate, willing to adopt new ways of working
* Good influencing skills desirable
* Commercial awareness desirable
