Compliance accomplishes these through the firm's enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm's second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm's compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm's responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading. RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS. Position Summary:. The ideal candidate will join this effort as regulatory lead, with ownership of all regulatory filing processes, including all filings related to receiving required licenses and registrations, creating new business units, and maintaining compliance in relevant markets. Beyond core regulatory affairs functions, the regulatory lead will also be a key executive leader.. Responsibilities:. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory affairs and trends throughout North American and international markets.. Build and maintain relationships with regulators and their staff, as well as advocacy organizations. Ensure on-time, complete, and accurate filings for all relevant jurisdictions.. Oversee regulatory roadmap for expansion to multiple markets and states, as well as expansion of product offerings to potentially include multiple commodities, and multiple services.. Able to understand complex requirements, navigate ambiguity and set implementation path.. Work closely with business team to understand business requirements and lead regulatory decision-making and implementation.. Create regulatory strategy to enable business goals.. Qualifications. Minimum of 10 years of regulatory experience with a deregulated energy provider, minimum of 5 years managing mass market issues.. Deep understanding of regulatory environments across North American markets, including state-level, ISO/RTO, FERC.. Experience shaping regulatory outcomes through filings, docket interventions and involvement in regulatory proceedings.. Creative thinker with a track record of entrepreneurship and innovative problem-solving.. Self-starter that will serve as a culture-setter for an organization.. Successful communicator with experience clearly explaining, quantifying, and advising executive leadership with respect to regulatory risk.. Entrepreneurial experience preferred.. Experience hiring and managing a regulatory team.. BA/BS required, JD preferred. Familiarity with financial services a plus.
