The Canada I-Trade Analyst is responsible for Canada compliance with a focus on Canada import and export regulations and the import/export logistics of finished goods and materials. This position possesses unique exposures in customs, international freight forwarding, finance, accounting, and stewardship that mandate him/her to interact with multi-disciplinary functions, both international and domestic. The person in this role is required to obtain release from Canada Border Services Agency (or CBSA) via customs broker by verifying vendors commercial documents for accuracy and completeness comparing with purchase orders, matching to carriers Bills of Lading, and communicating with Supply Chain resources (e.g., US/EU ship sites, carriers and vendors) to identify value, origin, Harmonized System (or HS) codes for filing B-3 corrections and B2 adjustments. Separately, the chosen individual will become the department s point of contact for Finance & Accounting issues to lead account reconciliation reporting on periodical time frame, track results, resolve issues, and own work process improvements. This position also requires in-depth knowledge and ability to qualify for Free Trade Agreements. Qualified candidates must maintain thorough knowledge of international trade regulations regarding a broad variety of products, materials, marketing, and R&D items because of his/her expected participation in internal and external audits, if any. Personal judgment, escalation to management, and/or 3rd party inputs sometimes are necessary regarding legal compliance of unique transactions with CBSA, US Customs Border & Protection, and other related government agencies in both countries. Errors in judgment can result in significant business disruption, including but not limited to: delay in receipt of goods, significant public relations exposure, potential penalties, and loss or restriction of import privileges. THE ROLE In this role you will be responsible for: Leading a high performing marketing team Own relationship with the Customs Broker and build/update SOPs when required Troubleshoot and problem-solve daily international shipment issues pertaining to Canada Customs clearance Work closely with Marketing Department to provide Customs expertise on current and proposed products to be imported/exported to/from Canada Complete classification requests when needed utilizing the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of Canada Create Standard Operating Procedures, KPIs and organize file system for Canada Customs compliance Develop and implement Free Trade Agreement programs for cost avoidance and savings Gather, track and trend Canada Customs compliance data (e.g., B3 entries and NAFTA status) to perform customs duty & accrual analyses for business units, post entry review, and file single/blanket B-2 correctors with CBSA Achieve expert level knowledge of Regulations and requirements of Canada Border Service Agency (or CBSA) and other government regulatory agencies Respond to CBSA Customs inquiries (e.g., B3) and challenge CBSA when appropriate Initiate and run multiple process improvement projects with IT including but not limited to EDI set up Identify & leverage cost avoidance/ savings opportunities outside Free Trade Agreements (e.g. Duty Drawback and Blanket Adjustments) Conduct internal entry audits and external audits as required Analyze data collected from external/internal sources including preparation of ad hoc reports (e.g., Logistics analysis by management) Administer and control all Accounting related tasks for the department such as G/L, A/P and A/R including processing the monthly payment of customs duties and Tax (GST) to the Canadian Government Perform preliminary verification of Customs Invoices Trouble shoot any payment related issues by partnering with Accounts Payable Act as consultant to the business and work with consultants on rulings requests as needed from CBSA and/or other government agencies Attend seminars and courses to keep abreast of current and future Canada Customs and Importing changes (e.g., New Regulations updates) Carry out projects as required depending on business needs Understanding end to end supply chains WHAT YOU LL BRING We d love to see candidates who have: Essential: Post-secondary education in Customs, International Trade, Business, Supply Chain, Finance or Accounting Minimum 2 years of work experiences in a Customs brokerage or Importer environment Knowledge of Customs regulations, NAFTA origin rules, valuation, HS classification, General Interpretative Rules of the Customs Tariff, and international Incoterms Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation is an asset Background in Order Management, Corporate Control, Transportation, Finance & Accounting, Accounts Receivables, and/or Accounts Payable is a plus.
