DESCRIPTION: The position's primary focus will be drafting and reviewing agreements for S&S's digital-related initiatives and addressing the day-to-day needs of S&S's marketing groups and the international publishing teams in the UK, India and Australia (with a primary focus on the UK). The position will work directly with S&S's Marketing, Sales and Operations departments on digital, marketing and privacy matters as well as providing support to the international publishing teams, and will counsel clients on various legal and commercial risks related to media, intellectual property, commercial, privacy, technology and digital issues. The position will partner strategically with the publishing teams and act as a general advisor and consulting resource from the Legal Department. Responsibilities include: Review, draft and negotiate a variety of contracts including technology (SaaS and Information as Service agreements) and master services agreements, and marketing and vendor agreements; provide prompt advice and counsel to marketing, sales, and operations departments on a wide array of legal and business issues, including business risks, contract interpretation, and other issues; conduct pre-publication review of books and associated promotional materials; advise and counsel clients on libel, defamation, privacy, copyright and other issues; support the larger legal and contracts team in addressing new or special projects, consistent with the evolving needs of the business. QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent drafting and negotiating skills. Sound business judgment and creative problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with different client groups to provide guidance and make strategic recommendations. Effectively prioritize, execute and respond to a wide variety of inquiries. Ability to work collegially. An understanding of data privacy laws and regulations or at least the willingness to learn is preferred. 6-10 years of experience preferred.
